Hi Kerry,

Yes I am in super prep mode.

I am guessing that networking my laptop is not an option; I can work around that.

(KM - thanks for being flexible, there are two concerns for this:
(1) your computer isn't configured to CIT and there is a high chance that the internet won't work...but I will bring my mac in on Mon and see if I can test it...fingers crossed.
(2) US macs have different voltage/wattage??? have you explored the potential implications of overloading the power to your US mac...if you're not and I can get my mac to work then you can use your machine, the only restriction will be the tricky websites...but you've indicated below that you don't need SL, so twitter might be the only obstacle - but we'll have that on the second projector...will update you next week of our testing.

I do not need Second Life for these presentations. (KM - Phew)

"Being There" is mostly PowerPoint;  I do have videos and would need to have QuickTime installed on the presentation machine  (KM - There shouldn't be any problem with QuickTime)

If I use external sites they would be:

Twitter http://www.twitter.com/  (KM - Jyothi is working on this for me)

Wikipedia (not critical)  (KM - positive test)

NowPublic http://www.nowpublic.com/  (KM - positive test)

Flickr http://flickr.com (KM - positive test)

http://twittervision.com/   (KM - positive test)

http://horizonproject.wikispaces.com/   (KM - positive test)

http://play.blogger.com/   (KM - positive test)

http://sandbox.sourcelabs.com/livemarks/   (KM - positive test)

I do not need YouTube as I have QuickTime versions of all videos. (KM - easy fixed then)

For the Web Gems one,  the sites I am sending people to are listed at:

http://cogdogroo.wikispaces.com/Web+2.0+Gem+Starters  (KM - all links tested)

and optionally (though not strictly necessary):

http://cogdogroo.wikispaces.com/More+Web+Gems  (KM - all links tested)

Your other message was helpful, those links had typos and have now been fixed.  (KM - glad I could help)

You do NOT need to test http://cogdogroo.wikispaces.com/StoryTools  (KM - easy then nothing further required)

thanks!

Hi Alan

I can't believe we're in October already, you must be in prep mode for your trip to Oz next week :)

Cathy and Jyothi have reminded me to liaise with you in relation to your technical needs for the ACT event.

We would prefer that you save your presentations onto your USB and load them onto the PCs in the respective rooms and run your presenations off the PCs.

For the Being There presentation, in the tiered lecture theatre the standard AV is:

Main projector-

> PC with fast internet access (CIT has firewalll restrictions and we are unable to access SL)

> ceiling mounted data projector

> surround speakers

> the lecture theatre has a microphone on a stand, but I am trying to arrange a lapel mic, as requested

> I don't see there being a probel with you recording the audio, we ask guests to sign a consent form when they confirm their registration on the day.

Second projector-

> PC laptop with fast internet access (Jyothi Jayaram on our team will try loading and testing the application TwitterCamp to this PC laptop)

> loose data projector

> side screen to project onto

> it is very unlikely that we will be able to access Skype, twitter, AIM to connect live (we will try, but pls prepare your presenation as if we didn't have access).

> PC speakers - if needed pls confirm

> the handout will be printed when available.

For the Small, precious web 2.0 gems interactive workshop, in the large computer lab the standard AV is:

> PC with fast internet access (however there are firewalll restrictions*) (userlogin is learnscope, password is learnscope)

> data projector

> I will bring PC speakers

> the three handouts will be printed.

Links for the Small, precious web 2.0 gems interactive workshop - I have successfully tested each of the links on:

Please note that the following links are dead (page cannot be found):

Do I also need to test the links on the wiki page http://cogdogroo.wikispaces.com/StoryTools?

Also, for your Small, precious web 2.0 gems interactive workshop, in the event reminder email (sent out 1 week before the event) I was keen to suggest that before your workshop people create an email account (eg with yahoo) in case they can't access their email remotely to receive activation emails for any new accounts they create as part of your workshop...do you think this will save you time and be necessary?

Thanks Kerry :)

PS - Your ACT visit is attracting alot of interest :) and we have promoted it on our ACT LearnScope website - Alan's visit webpage

Hi Alan

Kerry Manikis - ACT Framework Coordiantor here (link to a pic of me and the ACT webpage) and (link to my pics tagged kezonhols in flickr)! I work in the Strategic and National Projects office with Cathy Baxter and Jyothi Jayaram in Canberra.

Firstly, I'd like to let you know how excited we are about having you visit and despite the late wiki entry, have been planning quite a lot behind the scenes.

I have been testing the waters with the ACT Steering Committee in relation to your suggested topics, bearing in mind our audience (primarily teachers/trainers/facilitators in a TAFE, private training provider or high schools/colleges [year 11-12]).

We are fortunate to secure you on a Friday (19 October to be exact) and have from 11.30 am to 5pm to run hopefully a presentation and workshop.

The ACT audience's grasp or e-learning and level of embedding is similar to that of Tasmania, and we'd like to say "ditto" to alot of the dialogue that you're had with Jen and Elisabeth.

There is another activity on the Friday morning from 9-11 am, so we want to strategically time your event's start ;)

We'd like to progarn the following topics for your ACT Event: (suggested timings in blue)

> registration and light refreshments (11.30am - 12 noon: 30 mins)

> presentation - Being There (tiered lecture theatre) (12noon - 1.30pm (90 mins): 10 min welcome, 75 min presentation, 5 min thank you)

> break (1.30pm - 2.15pm (45mins): 35 min lunch, 10 min room swap)

> interactive workshop - Small, precious web 2.0 gems (large computer lab)* (2.15pm - 4.15pm: 2hrs)

I'm keen to find out from you, your ideal time for the two topics. For example do you need 60 or 90 minutes for the presentation? Would you prefer 2 or 3 hours for the workshop? This will help me plan if lunch coincides with the registration or after your presentation, and then all of the other timings seem to fall into place.

* Venue - the Canberra Institute of Technology's Reid (city) Campus. I've secured a lab with 40 computers - Cathy, Jyothi and I will be there to support you with the large numbers :)

Time for me to stop and give you a chance to contribute.

FYI - I'll be on leave for 1 week starting from Thu and will miss the Elluminate session that Cathy is organising, so please accept my apologies and I'll be in touch when I return from Hong Kong.

Kerry :)

Thanks for the information and schedule Kerry.  As far as the times, I can be like the chemical defintiion of a gas- I can fill any volume ;-) I typically run about 75 minutes for "Being There" - but can either extend it or build in more discussion of you prefer a 90 minute slot. I think 2 hours is ample for the workshop. What I create is actually a starting point for people to explore, and if they are interested, all the materials will be online for them to return to.

The goal there is to try an dhave folks find some tools that are not familiar with and get a bit of experience they then might share back in my wiki site.

Hi again Alan!

Thank you for clarifying your pres/workshop durations :) I have updated the program to include the timings, I hope this sounds do-able for you, if not please let me know.

Kerry :)
