Thanks for the intro, Katharina! I'm looking forward to seeing Darwin, though my stay is so briefly (I believe I arrive mid day on the 24th, hopefully will get a chance to look around).

The "Being There" presentation was originally done in I believe 75 minutes, but could be slimmed to be an hour. This could leave room for perhaps something else more interactive / hands on??

 Note-this would be a derivative of "Being There: nets, tweets, avatars..." presented in May 2007 (available on slideshare and flickr) but with fewer allusions to US pop culture.

How do we deal with the never ending onslaught of new technlogy, how can we face this brave new world without a sense of dread? "Keeping up" is a myth, and the way of dealing with this is creating, sustaining, and being in your extended networks of friends, colleagues, etc. Likewise, one cannot readily assess the value of new technology from the outside "looking in". This presentation will lead you through a range of examples of ways to practice more "being there-ness" so you can face technology with a child like sense of wonder.

This one sounds quite good Alan, what would the timing be for this?

Hi Alan,

What would you suggest for a hands on session to follow the Being there presentation or what do you think would be a good follow on from this that fits within our time frame?

I am like a gas- I can occupy any volume ;-) It would help me to know a bit more about the audience, or what topics on technology, more so web technology are of interest. But that said, I could transition into something hands on- these first two would be a little bit of me leading and people (trying to) follow along and try some activities

* Basics of tagging both web sites and photos

or

* A few of the flickr activities; I am planning these to be mix and match

These two are set up to be a little more independent, with some intro, then a good chunk of activity time, with closing discussion:

* Small Web Gems (experiencing some new Web 2.,0 sites, sharing what they found on a wiki)

or

* 50 ways to tell a web story - using web-based tools to assemble quickly a short multimedia product,for an audience that might appreciate creating original content  I like the sound of this one, thanks Alan.  Developing resources appropriate for our clients is a BIG topic for us Territorians.  Plus, if we can give people something to 'take away' with them, even better.  Cheers Melanie (NT LearnScope Manager, Toolbox Champ and Framework Coordinator).

In the past couple of years we have always had quite a vast audience. From government to Industry, Private and Public Training Providers, Vocational Education and Training Practitioners, Schools (Teachers) and majority of the attendees are from the Vocational Education and Training sector.

The being There presentation would need to be slimmed down to 60 mins as you said was no problem earlier.

Sure, I can make this work. I'll probably trim down 'Being There' to be more like 45 minutes with a short break as a transition. The "50 Stories"can be done as an overview, to give people all the might need to get started and perhaps complete on their own if there is insufficient time. Questions:

• What sort of venue is this- will people be sitting in rows, at tables?
• Will they have access to a computer? laptops? Can they share if it is a sizable group?
• For that matter, how many people might be there?
